5 Steps To Toned Thighs

If you are not happy with your figure and you would love to regain the toned look that you had in your teens, there are a number of steps you can take to achieve your goal. In this short article, I am going to focus on thighs, as so many women are more concerned about this part of their body than any other. Whether you want to look great in miniskirts or you are planning a summer holiday and would like to feel confident when strolling along the beach in a revealing bikini, the following steps should help.

Whatever you may have read elsewhere, there is no diet that will help you to lose fat from one particular part of your body. In order to lose fat from your thighs, you will need to burn more calories than you eat and lose it from all over your body. There are many diets from which to choose and those that help to create a daily calorie deficit are all worth considering. The best diet for you will depend on how much time you have to prepare food and calculate the calories in each meal, as well as your personal preferences as far as eating habits are concerned.

Keep a food diary

Following on from the above point, once you have chosen a diet it is a good idea to keep a daily diary and make a note of everything that you eat. Buy yourself a small notebook or use your smartphone if you prefer but whatever you do, make sure that you include everything. Many people are unaware of bad eating habits until they start keeping a food diary and it can be an excellent way to spot where the problem lies in the event that your diet does not appear to be working. If you have a 20 oz. latte with full fat milk on your way into work every morning, that’s around 240 calories alone so you can see how important it is not to miss anything out.

Regular exercise

Although no amount of physical exertion will give you the toned thighs you desire if you continue to eat more calories than you burn, there are a number of exercises that will help to tone the muscles in your legs. If you don’t fancy joining a gym, you can purchase resistance training machines to use at home. Sam’s Fitness carry a wide range of equipment and there are a number of other reputable online retailers that are worth checking out if you wish to exercise in the privacy of your own home. Quad extension and hamstring curl machines are worth considering, and you should also invest in free weights that you can use to perform squats and deadlifts.

Stop smoking

If you are a smoker, now is the time to quit. Apart from the obvious risks to your health that smoking poses, it will leave you with less energy to exercise. Aerobic exercise such as cycling on a stationary bike or using a rowing machine is good for burning calories but smokers usually find that they are out of breath long before they have spent enough time on these machines for it to do them much good. If you have tried to stop in the past and found it very difficult, there are many books that have been written on the subject that may help you to stop for good this time.

Minimise your alcohol intake

This should really be included in the diet section but because it causes so many people problems when they are trying to lose weight, I thought it best to address the subject of alcohol separately. Whilst the odd glass of wine will probably do no harm, you should be aware that all alcohol is basically empty calories from a nutrition angle and should therefore limit your intake as much as possible.

The above steps should get you on your way to achieving the toned thighs that you really want but it is worth consulting a fitness specialist before you start to exercise and if you have any worries about your health, a visit to the doctor might be in order too.
